The short version.

I'm Herman Starikov — a senior software developer at Coursera, working in React and TypeScript on design systems and AI-assisted delivery. I'm the all-time top frontend contributor by merge count, and I've spent a decade making complex interfaces hold together.

I was born and raised in Moscow and now live in Thorold, Ontario, with my family — a Russian engineer who ended up in Niagara by way of a long, winding frontend career: UXP Systems, Rangle.io, EBlock, and Coursera since 2019.

Off the screen: basketball (the Raptors have my loyalty), travel, and family life. This site is the personal side of the resume — what I'm thinking about, what I'm building, and the small surface I keep on purpose.

What this site is.

starikov.dev is deliberately small: an introduction, a resume, and docs on how the site itself gets built. No cookies, no tracking scripts — the privacy page has the full story, including the aggregate traffic stats my host sees. The Docs page documents the tokens, components, and workflow behind every change, written for humans and agents alike.
